Happy Day After Mother’s Day! 🙂 Yes, I am extending the celebration of Mother’s Day by posting this song the day after, for no other reason than because my mom deserves it.
I hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend. I had an amazing time sharing in laughter and great times with my family all weekend.
This song by Boys II Men is special to me. When the movie Soul Food came out years ago, my mom and I went to go see it in the theater together. As the credits started rolling and “A Song for Mamma” started playing, I threw my arms around my mom’s neck and sang the lyrics in her ear (loud and probably off key, mind you lol). Over the years, every time I heard that song when we were together, I would do the exact same thing. She would just laugh and laugh, and this became “our song”.
Not only does that song bring up such a joyful memory between us, the words in it ring true for how I feel about my mom to this day. She is my absolute best friend in this world. I don’t know what I would do or where I would be without her. She has been my rock in SO many situations. She is constant guidance when I feel lost and confused, laughter when I’m being way too serious, and love when I don’t even know that I need it. I am incredibly blessed to have such an amazing woman as my mom. I have learned so much from her and it means everything to me that everyday we grow and share together. We have a bond that is unmatched, one that I treasure more and more everyday.
My mom, Alma R. Myers, is the most giving, loving, supportive, joyful, youthful-spirited woman I know. Her no nonsense, snatch-you-back-into-reality-quick advice keeps me grounded when I’m trippin’ and her hilarious, spontaneous, out-of-the-box personality has me holding my stomach, falling over, cracking up laughing every single day (literally). To top it all off, her open heart allows me to truly be myself and has taught me the depths of unconditional love.
And so today and everyday, I honor my mom with this song…
Honor your mom any day with this song on your playlist:
